PARTICIPATION OF SP GROUP IN PROJECT BIOTERMIC

Over four very-productive years of research and development, under the umbrella of the CIEN project called AVANZA-S, SP GROUP had the pleasure of collaborating with some innovative companies. As a result of this collaboration, a battery of tests series was created in 2020 to ensure circularity through the composting and recycling of new, more-sustainable mono-material structures.

We are pleased to present PROJECT BIOTERMIC, undertaken by a consortium of companies: NUREL, MONTESANO and SP GROUP. This consortium will be researching and developing new, recyclable, mono-material and biodegradable materials that can withstand high temperatures and are suitable for the meat industry. The aim is to achieve maximum transparency, seal strength, good tightness and mechanical properties, low gas permeability, and the ability to withstand the temperatures reached in different heat treatments.

In its role, SP GROUP is designing and manufacturing the new recyclable or compostable structures, guaranteeing the physical integrity of the packaging and its optimal performance before and after the packaging process. The aim is to find recyclable and compostable solutions that comply with the 2030 European Strategy on Plastics, for packing companies that use heat treatments above 100°C, and that will preserve sterilised products (up to 121°C).

For the compostable materials, our aim is to comply with the OK COMPOST INDUSTRIAL, HOME and MARINE standards, which provide greater added value.
