COMMITMENT TO CHEMICAL RECYCLING

SP Group has always been a pioneer in terms of sustainability. We analyse new trends and market needs in order to offer you solutions that adapt to your company’s products and values.

Today, chemical recycling provides an innovative solution to the plastic waste problem. The technology allows us to recycle waste that cannot be mechanically recycled, turning it into a new raw material. This reduces the amount of waste that ends up in landfill or the incinerator.

With this in mind, we embarked on a project with REPSOL that has resulted in two circular-economy-inspired packaging solutions: a stand-up pouch, and a base web and top film for vacuum packing. HUERCASA, a company specialising in ready-to-eat vegetable products, also participated in the vacuum-packaging project. The retortable prototypes are made of monomaterial polypropylene containing food-safe recycled plastic.

When presented by Repsol at the German K trade fair in October, these prototypes generated a lot of interest among visitors. The use of ecodesign and the focus on preserving the taste and freshness of food products made them particularly attractive.

Achieving such solutions for incorporation into the circular economy is one of SP Group’s main goals. As things stand at the moment, we are dependent on the availability of recycled material, which is currently very limited. As recycling processes improve, this amount will increase to make the circular economy a reality.
