Preventive measures: plastic as a safety barrier against COVID19

January 27, 2021

We are all currently facing a very difficult situation.

Covid-19 is hitting the world’s population hard.

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), you can contract Covid-19 by inhaling the small droplets expelled by an infected person when they cough or sneeze. This is why it is hugely important to protect ourselves as much as possible against the virus.

Covid-19 is providing a lesson in solidarity and teamwork for many. Like SP Group, there are many companies which, faced with this humanitarian crisis, have decided to support groups in need by providing protective equipment.

The equipment most in demand by the healthcare sector includes: isolation gowns, surgical masks, respiratory equipment, gloves, protective face shields and goggles.

PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT USING PLASTIC PRODUCTS

Keen to fight the pandemic, the plastics industry is doing its bit to help by producing different items of protective equipment to prevent the spread of Covid19.

In these difficult times, plastic has become priceless. As well as being used for the protection and distribution of food, it now also provides an essential barrier that helps counterattack and neutralise the propagation of the virus.

FACE SHIELDS

These are shields made of different plastics that cover the main part of the wearer’s face.

FACE SHIELDS

The visors are reusable, as they consist of a clear, rigid protective plastic. This kind of shield can be disinfected with alcohol, soap and water or bleach.

SCREENS

This type of protection has become the great ally of pharmacies, shops and health centres when it comes to combatting the spread of the virus.

GOWNS

The production of isolation gowns against Covid-19 is also common in the industry. The use of plastic makes the gowns a very effective method of preventing the transmission of Coronavirus.

GLOVES

It is important to remember that this type of protection must be disposable, as the virus can survive between 8 and 12 hours on certain surfaces. Thanks to the plastic products used to make them, gloves provide an adequate degree of hygienic protection to protect the wearer from the virus.

These is just some of the protective equipment made from plastic that is designed to mitigate the spread of the pandemic. As well as using the aforementioned equipment properly, it is also important to follow a series of guidelines to avoid contracting Covid19.

PREVENTIVE MEASURES AGAINST CORONAVIRUS

Most people infected by the virus only experience mild symptoms. However, there are other sections of the population that are seriously affected. This is why it is especially important to look after our own health and ensure we do not infect other people by following these guidelines:

WASH YOUR HANDS

Washing your hands frequently is essential. You should use an alcohol-based hand sanitiser, or soap and water. This is a very effective way of killing the virus if it is on your hands.

AVOID MEETING UP WITH OTHERS

You should avoid crowds, and make sure you keep a safe distance away from other people. When someone has a disease like coronavirus, if they cough or sneeze, they project tiny droplets into the air that contain the virus.

DO NOT TOUCH YOUR EYES, NOSE OR MOUTH

Our hands are constantly coming into contact with many surfaces that could be contaminated with the virus. This means that if you touch your eyes, nose or mouth, the virus can be transferred into your body.

SEEK MEDICAL HELP IF YOU HAVE ANY OF THE FOLLOWING SYMPTOMS

If at any time you think you have symptoms such as a temperature, a cough, or difficulty breathing, you must seek medical help immediately.

As we explained at the beginning of the article, we are facing a very difficult situation, but together we will win the fight against Covid19.Did you find this information interesting? Follow our blog for all the latest news, trends and advances in the packaging sector.
