SP GROUP SUSTAINABILITY MILESTONES

2009: We launched SOL, a multi-layer, high-barrier film that combined maximum quality with significantly reduced thickness, ensuring major advantages in terms of cost and the environment: lower Ecotax, less waste and reduced electricity consumption – thanks to the lower sealing temperature. It also stands out for the absence of chlorine products.

December 2014: A new range of solutions for trays and top films, NATURTRAY and NATURFILM. Both have high preservation properties and unique finishes, while being environmentally friendly. NATURTRAY is a specific material for use as a thermoformable base; a laminate combining paper and rigid film. NATURFILM is ideal for use as a top film. It is a laminate with paper as the main design material.

CASE IN POINT FOR NATURTRAY: SEDIASA

CASE IN POINT FOR NATURFILM: TOSTADEROS SOL DE ALBA

September 2015: We launched R-CLOSING EFFICIENT, a material that combines rigidity and flexibility, is resealable and stands out for the absence of chlorine products.

CASE IN POINT: FROMAGIERES PERRAULT

October 2015. We launched SOL EFFICIENT, the perfect packaging solution that combines top film and a web base. It is a tough material and the tray is 100% recyclable.

CASE IN POINT: CAMPOFRIO

March 2016: We brought our third EXTRUDER into commission in the ESPIEL factory, thereby duplicating production capacity. This also allowed us to reuse 100% recycled material, responding to client demands for sustainability.

October 2016:  Our TRAY2TRAY circular economy project was launched, based on the effective management of waste and excess material from production.

CASE IN POINT: PLASTICOS ACHA

December 2016: We participated in the BIOBARACTIVE-JSIP project, a joint research project with the Japanese company NIPPON GOHSEI to create the first multi-layer barrier packaging that is 100% biodegradable.

July 2018: New BIO FVSOL material, totally biodegradable, compostable and biobased. Part of the SOL range, high-barrier films with maximum quality and protection but minimum thickness. Fully suitable for food use.

CASE IN POINT: PLANNED PACKAGING (for packaging salmon)

May 2018: We managed to reduce our carbon footprint at our ESPIEL facility by using recycled material in the manufacturing of rigid film. It is the equivalent of stopping emitting around 38 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere.

September 2018: Phase II of the AVANZA-s Project. SP GROUP’s  objective is to ensure our packaging remains 100% food safe. In conjunction with the project, we launched HOT FILLED APET, a tray that can withstand up to 100ºC without becoming deformed or losing its properties. It is an eco-friendly solution that replaces other more-polluting materials and is part of the TRAY2TRAY circular economy project.

March 2019: New 100% recycled and 100% recyclable material, rPET is a thermoformable monolayer film, made from 100% post-consumer recycled material.

CASE IN POINT: CAPRICHO ANDALUZ

May 2019:  New 100% recyclable material for the FMCG sector, PE HB ECO, stands out for its high-barrier qualities, as well as its capacity to withstand heat treatments such as pasteurisation, hot-fill and microwaving. It is also characterised by its high degree of transparency.

CASE IN POINT: ATKINS & POTTS

June 2019: Phase III of the AVANZA-s Project. A focus on experimental research and development for new, healthier foods and advanced packaging.

November 2019: The post-consumer recycled material from trays is increased to 50% in rPET. We also launched the BIONATUR SOL range, a biodegradable, kraft-paper structure in Doypack pouch format.
