Consortium of companies: NIPPON GOHSEI, SP GROUP and a Spanish company dedicated to large-scale food consumption.
SP GROUP is working at international level on a research project aimed at creating the first packaging for processed meat products made with multi-layer materials and gas barriers, but that is also totally biodegradable and compostable.
The project, with a duration of two years, is being carried out within the framework of the Japan & Spain Innovation Program, a joint collaboration between the organisations CDTI-España and its peer company NEDO in Japan to boost R&D and Innovation in both countries.
The need to achieve more sustainable packaging obliges us to make advances in cutting-edge technological research and development that can find comprehensive and innovative solutions for minimising environmental impact without losing functionality, and advances in active packaging. The main objective is the development of the first totally biodegradable and compostable multi-layer, active-barrier packaging, capable of increasing the shelf life of processed food products for large-scale consumption to over 30 days.
